Mohali, March 5 A day after the daylight murder of Jammu-based gangster Rajesh Dogra (45) outside a shopping mall in Sector 67 here, the victim’s younger brother, Rakesh Kumar, expressed threat to his four younger brothers and their children from the assailants. “They are the gangsters of Jammu. If they can kill my brother in daylight here, it is very easy for them to target our children in Jammu,” he said at the Civil Hospital, Phase 6, where he had come to claim the body of his brother — the eldest among five siblings. The deceased’s brother today had a look at the CCTV footage of the incident but reportedly did not confirm the identity of any of the assailants. Rakesh, however, blamed Rajeev Sharma, alias Bunty, who was accompanying the deceased from Jammu on their way to Ayodhya, for renegading on his brother. Bunty was nabbed by the police while he was trying to flee after the incident yesterday. He was the deceased’s partner in their property-dealing business. “He is the one who planned and arranged for his (Rajesh Dogra) stay here in Mohali,” said Rakesh. The police have not claimed any arrest in the case so far but sources said two-three suspects had been rounded up. Four armed assailants, who had come in two SUVs, sprayed bullets at Rajesh Dogra 12:20 pm on the main road in Sector 67 before fleeing the spot. ADGP (Ropar Range) Jaskaran Singh said yesterday that the police nabbed a suspect, recovered one vehicle in which the deceased had come here, weapons and mobile phones, including that of the victim, after the incident. DSP Gursher Singh Sandhu said, “The police are working on the leads in the case. We will be able to confirm the facts in a day or two.”Rakesh denied any extra-marital affair of his brother with a friend’s wife as the motive of the killing, adding that he was single and had turned religious after coming out of jail five years ago. Biz partner’s role under suspicion Rakesh, however, blamed Rajeev Sharma, alias Bunty, who was accompanying the deceased from Jammu on their way to Ayodhya, for renegading on his brother. Bunty was nabbed by the police while he was trying to flee after the incident on Monday. He was the deceased’s partner in their property-dealing business. From selling tea to running gang Dogra, alias Mohan Cheer, a native of Reasi, reportedly used to run a tea stall outside the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department office in Jammu. He allegedly indulged in pilfering ration and kerosene but shot to notoriety after shooting gangster Sanjay Kumar, alias Bakra, in 2006. Dogra had murder, attempt to murder, Arms Act and Public Safety Act case registered against him.
